I also noticed that the crank seems to sit a little crooked on the axel could the axel be bent slightly . The bike is also not a conversion it is a track frame with what I assumed was a full Miche group (never checked the bb)
Ok I just measured the clearances and they vary slightly (around 5mm) but it changes from one side to the other according to where I measured from And the more I look at it seems the non drive crank sits a little crooked on the bottom bracket .so I pulled the crank again and the axel does seem bent or it could be my eyes playing trick on me ( have not had any coffee yet )…I need to get to work now so I will play around with this tonight I guess I might have to get a new bb and see if that fixes it. Is it bad to ride with it the way it is now.
draw a line with a ruler on a piece of paper, put the spindle on the paper with the widest parts lined up with the line. Measure the distance between the ends of the spindle and the line. If they don't line up, it's bent. I doubt it's bent, that's kinda hard to do (they tend to break more often than they bend, and they don't break that often either). Also, rotate the spindle to check multiple angles.
I dunno, that's what I'd do anyway.
