I really never had a problem off the street vendors that I frequented in Bangkok. I have gotten a mild case of the poots from a couple of the indoor places in a 5 month period......But nothing really serious.
Like I said though the better street vendors get their meat fresh daily whereas the indoor places have walk in frigs and might keep their meat a little too long. If the street vendors are busy with lotsa customers and the meat looks good they're probably a safe bet. When they run out, they're out of that item for the day.
The worst ptomaine poisoning I ever had, btw, came from a smorgasbord in Lemon Grove California. I thought I was going to die just from dry heaving after the food was eradicated. I had to go to the E.R. just to medicate and rehydrate.
