This is a very nice bicycle. I would check if the seat post and stem move freely, just to avoid a possible headache with stuck/corroded parts - but I, too, would very happily pay $50 for frame and fork alone if it fit.
A little surface rust on parts - likely easy to dispense with. Replace the chain.
My girlfriend rides a similar, but slightly earlier (1983) and perhaps somewhat higher-end Atala (Columbus SL, most likely, and a bit more chrome); she absolutely loves it.
I would very much like to see more detailed photos of the lugs, BB area, etc., should you complete the purchase. If you locate the serial number, it may be possible to determine year of manufacture.
