left turn situation

sometimes I yield to traffic, for example on this left turn where I take the right side sidewalk to wait for traffic to pass before making the left. I could have taken the lane earlier but really wasn't on-the-ball enough to achieve it. Also this traffic was moving swiftly and proved I should avoid it. There was no need to slow them down when I had an alternative.
