I know it isn't officially completed and open yet, but the extension from Bethpage State Park to Woodbury is looking a little ratty already.

I keep thinking about all the rail trail / bikeway "grand openings" I have been to over the years and the trailheads and right-of-ways were always immaculate and lined with flowers, bushes, and thick, freshly-cut grass. After a few years, these were still looking great, thanks to the efforts of volunteers who pitched in to supplement what the municipalities were/were not doing. I have a sick feeling that, once this project is off the DOT's to-do list, it's going to quickly deteriorate to the condition of our sidewalks and the overgrown aprons along state and county roads.

Does anybody else feel the same way?
