Surla's Modesto Crit. E4/5 1st place of 35 or so.

Arrived later than I wanted, so I didn't have much time to do more than reg, pin on the number, take a few warmup laps to see the course, and line up. I sat off the back a bit to warmup, then took a couple flyers, and was ready to race...20 minutes into a 45 min race. Not the best idea to sit off the back of a 4/5 field as quite a few 5s were dropped in the first few laps and I had to close some gaps.

Somewhat technical figure 8 course with bots dots everywhere. There wasn't a lot of space for a field sprint out of the last corner (~100m??), so my plan was to get to the front with about 800m to go, jump hard, get a gap, and hold the gap. There were 4 90 degree turns in the last 800m, so if I got a gap I figured it'd be tough for someone to come around.

With that plan in mind, I jumped at 800m, gapped the field, held them off for a win. Good fun. Ended up being a pretty quick race, but I didn't have to accelerate too much to get the gap and make it stick.
