Just to make do while deciding how to proceed, OP, you can put a thin metal washer with a large enough hole underneath the rubber washer. In case the hole in the rubber washer is a little sloppy, the metal washer will compress the rubber one and make it fit tighter on the valve stem. I can usually extend a pump head rubber gasket several years by doing this.
