"mine enemy's dog, though he had bit me, should have stood that night against my fire" - cordelia, in shakespeare's king lear.

wish i was cordelia's enemy's dog. it RAINED on my way home this evening. rained a week ago too, but this time i didn't have my famous waterproof jacket with me. but i did have a headwind. uphill. both ways. and from both sides. on my bleeding knees through the . . . oh, wait. wasn't quite that bad.

pretty wet, anyway. still being nice to my knees, and so far, touch wood, they're feeling okay. coming home wasn't actually that hard physically - not in terms of effort, because i had to keep stopping to grovel around for a kleenex and wipe my glasses, and even then never really got clear enough to feel safe going fast. not that i would have been able to anyway, i don't think. there seems to be more drag when the road and the air and the bike are all wet, and the rider is wettest of all.

actually, it was kind of fun. colder than last time, so not as fun as last time, but it still had moments. there's something i don't know how to describe when my chain is so wet: sort of a different texture to the pedalstrokes. i liked it, but i was glad to get home. toes getting cold by the end.

the morning ride in was good. i don't remember much about it, but i remember that it was good. home now, dry, changed into pjs, eating marshmallows and raw broccoli.

songs: apple cider reconstitution, al stewart, and good king wensceslas, just can't imagine why.
