Everyone loves a good spoke card. We should have a secret santa this year but you have to make and send someone a custom spoke card.
The following was a later post that I am adding to this post so that people seeing this for the first time know what is going on:
Ok Arseholes. Everyone who is in please email me at
sgauvreau@gmail.com. Send your full address with first name, last name, and bikeforums user name.
You must email me to participate. PMs to my bikeforums username do not count.
I cannot promise that you won't get someone from a country other than the U.S. so if you don't think you can afford to mail something very light over an ocean or a border then don't participate.
Email received after November 1st will not be accepted and you'll get a response informing you of that. So sorry. Expect to know who your person is on November 2nd. That gives you almost 2 months to create and send the card.
When you mail your card please include your bikeforums user name in or on the envelope.
Look deep down inside yourself. Are you a lazy focker who is gonna sign up for this and then forget to send thus ruining someones whole holiday season? Then please, don't participate.
Don't celebrate xmas? We don't care. This is about bikes and fun, not religion.
Anyone who has advice on sizing and laminating, please come forward and give everyone a tutorial.
Additional info to help you:
1.You have to make a brand new card. No sending out old cards. What you put on it is up to you.
2. I just measured a card that I consider to be the perfect size. It is 5 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/4 inches wide.
3. 300 DPI is a must.
4. It has to be double sided. Whether or not you have the same thing on each side is up to you.
5. You can do it all on your computer, MS Paint, or cutting and pasting (like scissors and glue). Hell, if you're feeling saucy you can get out a canvas and some oil paints. However you choose to create your art is fine. Just make it special.
6. For anybody who wants a 5.5inx4.25in PSD template:
http://spud77.com/bicycle/ (Thanks to Spud for providing this)
7. After January 1st non-senders will be publicly announced. People who send out but do not receive a card should contact Team Sean on or after January 1st.
8. Please do not post your design. I will create a 'post the spoke card you received' thread after the new year. People who post their designs will get a swift kick in the tush. Of course you may email or PM the person who sent you to card to give them your thanks, but like I said, wait until you see the thread to post them. Just keeping things organized.
9. Please, pretty please, pay the $1 to get it properly laminated at Kinkos. You don't want your card to disintegrate the first time the bike is ridden in the rain. Pouch laminate is the way to go. (Thanks to shants for the info.)
10. Don't print out on vellum cardstock and then laminate, unless you have an extra clear border of blank laminate around the outside edge. Vellum cardstock (like index cards) is actually two pieces of paper melded together and tends to split when it get wet or humid. I learned the hard way. (Thanks to Nolageek for this tip)
Love,
Team Sean
