Despite Povey's rant on your FB thread about this (and he's not
wrong), it is not a tall order. Based on the omniums I've seen at all four California tracks, someone with your speed could reach cat 3
VERY easily. From there, getting points toward cat 2 can be difficult, mainly because the fields are almost always combined 1/2/3. However, it does seem like USAC shows some flexibility here. They DO understand that track events are less frequent, and they DO understand some of the unique challenges. That is to say, if you were a cat 3 who had done a handful of 1/2/3 omniums (and esp if you had gotten a few omnium points here and there, and maybe even fared well compared to any other cat 3s in the field), AND managed to place in the few sprint tournaments/keirins that are held... well, I think they would give you fair consideration. This year probably too late, but easily attainable for nats next year.
