You're clearly a cycling Luddite, which I can appreciate in a philosophical sense, however, in practical terms, the tech ship has sailed, and more and deeper tech is ahead, and more and more people will be wanting, using, and expecting ride metrics.
Not fair to call him a luddite Chad. He is a tech for Campy and knowledgeable about the brand and came here to provide his thoughts. No name calling please. I agree with you about Shimano's foray into telemetry. Real question is...will Campy's heritage be an encumbrance moving forward as we march more into the tech age? This is hard to know as all companies morph over time to adapt to the times or they don't and then fail. Campy for example will likely adjust even though Shimano may have a leg up presently. When Campy came out with Ultrashift in 2009, their stuff was the best IMO. Ergos for example were far superior to Shimano or Sram. They also were first to market with 11s. But the tide has shifted as it often does in industry. Great companies can slip due to hungry and talented competitors and I believe this is the case 'currrently'. No doubt Campy has improved their groupsets for 2015 and a bit early to say to what degree.
As I see it, cost structure to model matters a lot and this is where Campy needs to step up their game a lot. Ultegra is a close clone of DA and has the same wonderful tech and functionality only without the aesthetic and a few more grams. Ultegra is priced very fairly. So it won't be enough for Campy in 2015 to dust off their Chorus thru Super Record. Not even close. They better think real hard about revising Athena to compete with Ultegra which will be real hard to do for them. Then what happens to 10s as 105 goes 11s. Shimano is turning up the heat and so is Sram with their new Force 22. Will see what Campy brings.
