I also prefer shifting manually. For me, it’s part of the fun of riding a multispeed bicycle, so I never consider it a hassle or inconvenience. When necessary, I already simultaneously shift the front and rear derailleurs, so intelligent shifting won’t be any faster for me especially since there are times whereby upshifting the front derailleur alone yields a better optimized gear ratio for the change in the terrain.

While I think it’s neat for individuals who prefer techie gizmos, I still prefer the simplicity of purely mechanical shifting. I don’t have to worry about any batteries dying, or forgetting to charge the batteries prior to a ride, or a broken wire, or electronic circuitry failures.
