I'm using a Campagnolo Chorus 8-spd brifter and RD with Shimano cogs on an Ultegra hub with spacers from Wheels Mfg dimensioned specifically for that purpose. This allows me to build any Campy 8-spd compatible cassette I want from loose Shimano cogs, scavenged from cassettes or purchased individually. The spacers are available from Wheels Mfg or here:
