There is often a small "rubber' bumper that sits up in the lever to damp the blade's striking the lever body. The sizing shims replace this bumper. The lever should work without this bumper but might be a touch loud on closing or over harsh jolts. This bumper could be duplicated with creative substitution. Andy.
