They tried that one year in Westchester County. EVERYBODY cried foul (pun). The animal lovers objected to the "slaughter", and instead of appreciating the food, homeless advocates tore into the program because it fed the homeless "substandard", non USDA meat.

The county even tried catching and transporting the geese. But guess what? They can fly and are smart enough to find their way back.

I ride through the goose habitat 3-5 times a week, and like the OP have no love for these birds too lazy to fly back and forth from Canada to the Carolinas like they're supposed to.
