I used a combination of Rt 1 & 1A & the ECG to end up in Portland. The Eastern Promenade trail takes you into Portland and after crossing the Rt 77 bridge turn at the kiosk to the ET. Big ET signs, you almost dont need the maps (good to have anyway). Followed the signs and made each connection easily. I did find couple of spots were you had to watch closely. The on road sign sections I believe should have the street names on them as there were no posts with the name of the street. The off road sections were dry and in good condition. The on road went from new tarmac to fair to rotten (IMHO). Make sure you have plenty of water as there were not many places to get same. On occasion I would see a porta pottie near a construction site. You'll come to a hospital with signs for the trail but access it behind through the parking lot. you should be able to get water/food/toilet here. Rt103 into Kittery was not the greatest in road conditions and crossing the new bridge in was nice. In Kittery the first place for sandwiches was MOES (food was good)
