It wasn't a busy road, but his chances of successfully crossing - especially since he was just sitting there retracted into his shell - were not very good. I put him in the grass just off the road and went about my business.

I came across a big snapper this morning that didn't fare so well. He had to be a few decades old and with at least a 15" shell. Crushed.

About 50 yards down the road there were stones scattered from a stone wall and a mailbox busted at the post.

Coincidence? ....Tough to say.
