I had the main wrench at the LBS express interest in my Trek 720, he came around and asked "what's with this one?" like he knew it was special.
Another wrench there asked "do you still have the blue Trek with the front rack?" In regards to my Trek 620.
I really like the guys at my LBS. I think the old stuff is pretty much out of their interest, but they understand and respect it.
A few weeks ago there were two young ladies riding the trail, we passed each other a few times- on one pass, one of them asked "is that a Trek 620?" It was my 720. I was pretty floored that they had a good idea of what my bike was.
About a month ago I was talking to a guy about his really nice looking Titanium and Carbon bike while I was straddling my 620. He said something to the effect of "it doesn't matter what you're riding as long as you're enjoying it- someday you'll get something better." I took it to mean that he thought my bike was old and obsolete.
And the best one- on the same path, I ran into Dave Wages of Ellis Cycles- he said "you have a nice Vintage Trek there" of my 720.
