I'll add a couple more things. Learn to spot glass and road debris. It's learned. Always wear cycling glasses and keep an eye out. In a short time you'll catch just about everything and not be aware of doing it.

Also where you get a flat, match up the tube hole with the spot on the tires. You can get a tiny sliver of metal in the tire lining and it can cause another flat much later if it's not removed.
