I crunched a squirrel. It darted out in front of me, stopped; darted off the road; then doubled back and tried to go between the wheels. I felt bad. It was gone 15 minutes later, something else ate it.
I've had some close calls with really big deer while I was blasting downhill >30mph. That expression "like a deer in the headlights" was invented for a reason. Rutting season is particularly scary.
Another startling episode was rounding a corner only to find 6 very large vultures making a roadkill deer disappear. Vultures don't have very fast take-offs after they've been dining a while, and these just barely got out of the way before I plowed through.
