New Member with an addiction to English 3 speeds
This is my first post.
I recently became interested in upright 3 speeds because I bought a vintage look alike called a Brooklyn Cruiser. I enjoyed riding an upright bike so much I searched Craigslist trying to find a similar bike for a friend of mine. I found him a well preserved ~1983 Columbia Tourist III which wasn't very vintage. But as I looked I knew I wanted to restore an English bike. So I bought a black Raleigh Gazelle model which appears to be similar to a Colt. The hub dates it as 1962. Then I stumbled on a rough red Hercules with a 1964 hub. I have started on the Hercules because I am learning as I go and don't want to mess up the Gazelle. It seems to be the more rare of the two models.
I'm learning a lot from the folks on the boards. I had previously restored some Schwinn tandems but don't have the space for these anymore and I also wanted something a little more classic to work on. I used Oxalic Acid for the first time on the chrome on the hercules and after scrubbing those old schwinns, this method is like magic. The toughest challenge I will have in this Hercules is straightening the beat up rear edges of both fenders and cleaning the paint with many rust spots.
Thanks much.
