i take him to his normal practices and games, but we always play/do drills before and after. most of the other parents i see locally sit and talk while their kids run amok.

on a side note, one kid's father ruptured his achilles in a fathers-vs-sons game. that was surely painful and embarrassing.
For the younger kids, we often did drills and games that did not appear soccer related. Playing tag is good. Develops agility, speed, dodging around (offense), staying close to the other player (defense).
