Although the 3rd generation design was arguably the least likely to fail catastrophically, keep in mind that
all versions of the Lambert/Viscount aluminum fork were recalled by the CPSC. If it were my bike, I'd replace it (which I did, on my Viscount). Despite being aluminum, it's not particularly light. Unlike modern aluminum forks, the Lambert/Viscount fork is a
solid casting, not hollow tubes. My "death fork" is actually 50gm heavier than a similar size Reynolds 531 fork with an investment cast crown and steer tube about 1cm longer than the "death fork."
