I'm thinking about getting a light touring machine (also to do some around town and trail riding) and have pretty much narrowed it down to a Surly Crosscheck or Bianchi Volpe. Has anyone seen an uncut steerer tube on both of these frames? I'm leaning toward the Volpe right now, because it seems like the complete bike package is more conducive to the type of riding I want to do (except for the STI - blech, friction all the way!). I want to get the handlebars up nice and high (especially if I mount moustache handlebars -which I plan to do). Is there a problem getting the handlebars high with either of these frames? thanks.
