If you don't have bar ends on the Jamis, you may want to add them. The varied handpositions can be a blessing on a long ride.
Remember the wind.......an upright riding position can be hell on a long ride. With bar ends you loosen the adjustment screws and position the bar ends out over the front to get you in a lower riding position.
I know folks who completed the STP on some god awful bikes and others who pulled up lame on refined road bikes. Keep hydrated and well fed.
+1. If you get long bar ends and face them forward like Daddy Wags mentions, you will be very tucked down when holding the ends. I rest my forearms on the grips and it is very comfy. In headwinds, I am easily 2mph faster in the tucked down position with the same effort. Bar ends are like what? 200g for the pair? I have the RavX Lite X Long--recommended and 85g each. 100g with some padded bar tape.
