I can tell you right now that I wouldn't be bike commuting if I had a typical 8 to 5 job. I'm just not a morning person and will not get up early enough to be at work by 7. Also, I have an "empty nest" so my bike commuting affects no one but me. And I have no plans to intentionally ride in the rain.

I completely agree that there are some obstacles that one may not be able to overcome or that would complicate one's life too much to be worthwhile. I pass no judgment on folks who cannot -- or choose not to -- commute by bicycle. But I do offer encouragement to those who would like to give it a try.
