I'd go with the 12-30 as I don't see a downside.

Mine shifts smooth as silk. I don't purposefully cross chain but invariably at some point in each ride I find myself in the big/big and it's quiet and smooth.

My guess is that there is less tolerance in getting your chain the right length during the install.
