A good fitter should fit you based on your riding needs. Everyone is different. Not everyone fits within the normal range of positions. The goal should be to find what works best for the rider.

I could have been fit to my cross bike with the more aggressive position of my road bike, but wasn't. I do different types of rides on my cross bike.

If you are a racer and power is a major concern you may be fit to a different position than someone like me that doesn't race.

I know I generate more power if I lower the stem on my road bike 1CM, but that causes other issues. The increase in comfort from raising my stem is worth the little loss in power.
