Specialized markets the Sirrus, especially the higher end models, as essentially a "flat-bar road bike." I have a mid-range Sirrus/Vita Sport (aluminum frame) and think it is fine on rough pavement but would not trust it for off-road or gravel. On the other hand, it *is* a great and comfortable daily commuter that also lets me keep up with the local group rides even as a beginner. As much as I love mine, I don't think it's quite the all-purpose bike you want it to be.
