I'm a fatty cyclist (who has spent the last forever trying to get wheels with sapim lasers true in the build I'm working on - that weight savings from the race is not worth the wind up hassles), who is building his own and they're much more than 24/28 (it could also be that I like the hubs I have but the rims failed and I didn't have 24/28 hubs on hand). But yeah, I am lazy or I wouldn't have the same wheel in the stand for the last week trying to get the tension/true just right.
So maybe you are right and we are all lazy and that's the reason we're fatties.
