You get a front derailleur that has the stop integrated into the design of the derailleur. I have a Suntour Cyclone like this, and there are many others. Then, you run housing between the stops.

where is the stop on the chain stay? there are clamp on ones for that too.
He has a brazed on stop on the down tube near the BB. I don't know what a stop on the chain stay has to do with the current discussion.
