That bike seems way over the top for a newbie to mtn biking. Coming from a roadie background, I would guess you'd be more into XC type riding/racing, not freeriding and DH. I may be wrong!

If into just riding some single track trails, I'd stick with a lighter XC type bike. If you want full suspension stick with a bike like the Gary Fisher Sugar, Trek Fuel 90, Santa Cruz Superlight, ....etc.

The bike in the pic is a huge heavy FR rig for hucking and making drops. It'll kill you to pedal that thing for an afternoon!
