I agree, somewhat. I don't want to start a debate here but I think shipmano was instrumental in the notion of group and the SLR and STI thing was in part to make you use shimano brakes if you were going to buy shimano derailleurs and shifters. I believe there was a lawsuit over this in the late '80s.
