Glad you weren't hurt. Airzound bicycle pump airhorn. Has saved my bacon many times over 20 years. May or may not have worked in your situation, but I recommend it for any commuter. Cars, animals, other cyclist, obliviots with full headphones on ped or pedal, all have been alerted and a crisis averted with a blast of the mighty Airzound. Now my biggest danger is myself.
