Western Montana was beautiful with decent riding. Like most low population areas, only the main roads are paved, but traffic was light and the people were kind and friendly. Missoula-Hamilton-Wisdom-Butte-Drummond-Seeley Lake-Missoula.
We drove through that area in 2012 and thought it might make for some nice touring. There were, as I recall, sections of paved bicycle path along side the highway in places ... near Kalispell, Polson (a little further north than where you were), and Missoula.
Do you have photos of that tour?
