If you're going to talk about statistics, the research which has been cited here many times is that overall lifespan increases 20:1 for cycle commuters. That is, for every bicyclist life year that is cut short due to a fatal accident, commuting bicyclists have 20 years of healthy life added to their collective lifespan due to the health benefits of cycling.

Yes, there's a risk, but there's a risk in getting out of bed in the morning and one of not getting out of bed in the morning.
