Heh, I'm embarrassed to admit I never thought of something as obvious as just changing the rear cassette.

I take it that doing so won't play funny buggers with the rear derailleur?

Don't know if the angle on your hill is worse than it seems on Google Maps, but that seems more like a long moderate hill, than a steep one.

It is the steeper hills that concern me.

Whilst this is by no means the steepest hill around where I live, something like this is more typical of the sorts of hills I am concerned about for myself.

When I did it using the granny gear on my old Mountain Bike, it was quite easy, but I think my ratio was 22/28.
