Can get buy well without being e-connected. Past couple of tours, have taken a non-smart phone. Last tour had an iPad-mini, not sure why I took it - only connected (wi-fi) a couple of times. I do like to carry a small portable radio. Have a 32 gig chip in my camera, so unless it is stolen or weather ruined - have lots of image capacity. Sometimes I tour to escape the electronic world.
ps. I know some use their e-device to document their tour, I do so with an old fashioned paper journal.
