Are you sure it's the pedals? There are plenty of other things that'll make noise in that general region when you put the power down.

That said, I rode a pair of no-name $20 all steel platform pedals on my mtb for my first year, weighing about 250 and mashing like the dickens. Working on a loading dock at the time, I often did it in steel toed boots. Never gave me any problems.
