Well, I went to a few LBS's and one place doesn't do trade in's and the other said they'd take it for $100 toward a new bike. Not too bad except I spent $50 on new tires so that would be a loss of $100 for me. They also didn't have any bikes in my size to try that I was interested in so that didn't help sway me. This was actually a specialized dealer. The strange part was I also asked about parts needed to fix my shifting issue. They said all I needed was a tune up. I was like huh? You were able to shift all the gears? He tried again and said the derailleur just needed to be adjusted. At this point I felt stupid until he tried to do it himself. Well, 15 min later he couldn't get it to work right. It was very nice of them to try although he kind of had to because like me, the initial adjustment made it worse. In terms of money, my wife actually wants my tires so that won't go to waste. That leaves me back to square one.
I rode with my kids today then spent sometime swapping between my bike and my wife's. I finally realized the Crosstrail isn't what I'm looking for. It's comfy but I'm mostly on paved paths and the front suspension was starting to make me nuts. I'm small and the weight of it is more than I care for as well. If I do anything more rugged I'll just get a mountain bike down the line. I'm going to roll the dice and hope I can do OK selling it. Someone who knows better or has parts laying around can make something more useful out of it.
I feel a bit bad after getting all this help from you folks. I'm more of a DIY'er so I get a kick out of tweaking things myself and really thought I'd go that route. In the end though I'm going with the same bike as my wife's. Thanks for all the help!
