The guy JUST said he's a truck driver and rides his bike in his boots. Speedplay makes terrific pedals but they're totally inappropriate for the OP's intended use.

It's surprising how much you can spend on platform pedals but there really is a pretty wide selection out there. Get the ones with little raised pins if you want your feet to stay put on the pedal. And I agree that there are tons of things that can make your bike creak - pedals are just one.
