I know that manufacturers and high-end shops need to push pricey clinchers to the lawyers and dentists that make up a profitable market demographic. But for those emptying their wallets to emulate peloton heroes: the bottom line is that for a variety of good reasons, pros don't race on clinchers.
On Tour- it causes fits among those tire and wheel manufacturers that don't make tubulars. But a little sanding and re-labelling fixes that.
This guy is not riding on the tour. He doesn't have a support car carrying spare wheels. He has a 30 year old bike and doesn't want the hassle of tubulars.
