Anyone who wants or needs a helmet but hasn't gotten around to it yet because of the cost, there's a discount store on 14th and 5th ave in Park Slope that sells CPSC-approved helmets for $14 including tax. They're comfy, relatively non-stupid-looking (relatively), and best of all, cheap.

I can't remember exactly what the store is called, but it's a big-box shaped building on the east side of 5th avenue, just to the left of the Washington Mutual. The helmets are in the front of the store, on the left wall.
