Ok, you just need very very very good genetics.

I was a decent cat 2 when I was younger. Looking back I know some things I could have done to improve. But I know, that no matter what I did, there was just no way I could be competitive with the top racers in the P.1.2 races. And the top racers that were kicking my butt, would get their butts kicked at the next level up.

So, it's quite simply a combination of genetics, and the dedication & motivation you describe. You need it all.

Even though Mom always said you can be/do anything you want if you try hard, it's not quite true.
