I've had my best results with sports doctors. Chances are they'll know exactly what the issue is. Some of the general practitioners aren't as well versed on muscular issues, and will tell you to just rest, which is only part of the solution.

Back when I had hip abductor issues, the two things I did was to remove the scar tissue (via graston or art) and strengthen it. I keep going on about scar tissue, but when the muscle is damaged, the scar tissue forms like a scab, except it can go deep into the muscle. That scab doesn't just fall off, it remains there after the muscle is healed which restricts blood flow and range of motion. It has to be physically broken off for a few sessions for the muscle to regain its full range of motion and strength.

Let us know how the appointment goes, hopefully its not a major problem.
