I think that if you get a flat, you should abandon your serious training goals of the day and aim to just make it home without walking. I do have a blackburn which is on the larger/medium size end spectrum of portable pumps, it's not enjoyable but has saved my hybrid bike on a number of occasions. That balance between weight savings, appearance, and functionality are a tricky one.
