New Personal Best
Today I rode 75 miles in organized charity ride averaging 18.1 mph which are both personal bests.
The ride was an out and back because of some road closures on the usual route. My friend and I enjoyed a light but steady tailwind most of the first half at the turnaround point we noticed a flag on the fire station was standing straight out indicating there was going to be some strong headwind for the first 20 miles back. Before heading back we stopped for a SAG and I asked a couple of guys who had been behind us if they wanted to work together on the 20 miles into the headwind which they agreed to. We formed our paceline, one of the other riders took the lead and off we went. We quickly found out the the rider must have been sandbagging the whole day because he just dropped the hammer and we testosterone took over because none of was going to cry uncle. The 20 miles into the headwind was at a 20 mph plus pace, my friend and I finally dropped off at the 58 mile mark when the winds turned more favorable. We made the turn at 18 mph and finished at 18.1 mph). Turned out this guy is going to run in a triathlon in two weeks.
FYI - I took my fair share of pulls and did a more than adequate job of keeping the pace
