Yes. parallel is fine. I endorse only minimal toe-in and only if needed. Any excess toe-in comes at the expense of brake arm travel.

In any case, it looks like you solved your problem.

BTW- I don't think you can endo with a trailer of any kind, but the weight shift forward lowers rear wheel traction, and the push from the trailer moves it sideways making you jackknife just lite a truck trailer. Of course, like with trucks there's little risk until a braking hard enough to lower rear wheel traction.
