For rainy season I wipe the chain clean with a square of old towel or the like wrapped around upper run of chain while in highest gear while I pedal. Then oil chain. Let it sit for 5 mins, or more if you have the time. Then wipe again. I like 0w20 mobil 1 mixed with a bit of mineral spirits if you have some.

When I was doing 15 mile commutes I'd often oil again before leaving work, sometimes skipping the wiping if I knew I was gonna thoroughly clean bike the next day.

Most of the time rainy season oiling of once per day is plenty.
