Bikes: Crosstrail Disc

1st wreck as an adult today

And it was on an mup, how sad is that? 8 months an adult-rider and knew it had to happen sometime just didn't expect anything as foolish as this.

Went for a 15ish mile ride at lunch and right about at my halfway point.

MUP has 2 separate paved paths one for bikes one for runners. I was coming up on a lady off her bike and a small girl on her bike, lady was teaching her how to ride, she saw me, moves the girl right some, I went to the left lane to pass slowish, I pass then see another small girl about 100 feet up, I stay left, I'm getting close to her then she stops, sees me then I guess not knowing what to do, she goes into the left lane herself, I go to the right and far into the grass so no matter where she decides to go on path I'll be clear, I get past her then tried to get back on the pavement and didn't realize it was raised above the grass a bit with a sharp corner, I tried to get back on at way too narrow of an angle and lost control, didn't go down immediately, had a whole half second of wobbling before I hit to think about all the broken bones or worse I'm about to get.

I got a nasty scrape on my elbow and a little bump on my head (no helmet) but my shoulder is messing with me bad. I'm caught up on everything at work and really wanting to leave to sit down on the couch with a drink but afraid doing that is going to get my wife all worried about "how dangerous" cycling is.

I should've just been patient and stopped or tried to get back on the pavement from grass at a much sharper angle (and slower). But I bet I don't make that same mistake again.

Messed up my front derailluer somehow, maybe my foot must've hit it? I had to bend it some by hand before I could head back and it's shifting the front 3 ok but the chain rubs the FD when in rear gears that it shouldn't, needs some more work I guess.

Also think I bent my rear wheel a tiny bit, if that can be fixed what's a normal price to pay for something like that?

I've worn a helmet just about only when I ride to work when I'll be around cars. What happened today didn't really hurt my head bad but it's really got me thinking how lucky I am and maybe I need to change my helmet policy.
